Standard, Pro or Studio: what you get
According to Adobe's own comparison page:
- Acrobat Standard edits and organises PDFs, converts documents to and from PDF, fills and signs forms, requests e-signatures and password-protects files.
- Acrobat Pro adds everything Standard leaves out for document-heavy work: turning scans into editable, searchable PDFs, comparing two PDFs, redaction, web forms, reusable e-sign templates and bulk e-signature requests.
- Acrobat Studio is Pro plus PDF Spaces, AI Assistant for Acrobat and Adobe Express Premium.

Annual billed monthly, prepaid or monthly?
Each plan comes in three ways to pay, and the difference is mostly in how easily you can stop:

The annual plan billed monthly looks like a monthly plan but is a one-year contract. Cancel it in month four and you can owe half of the remaining eight months. If you only need Acrobat for one project, the monthly plan costs more per month but nothing to leave. What Acrobat costs over three years
At today's US prices, three years of Acrobat Pro on the annual plan cost 3 × $239.88 = $719.64 per person. Three years of Standard cost $539.64, and Studio $899.64. For a team of five on Pro for teams at US$23.99 a month per licence, a year comes to about US$1,439. Software you use every day for years is where a subscription adds up, which is why many small offices look at the one-time options below.
Acrobat for teams
Adobe's business plans add an admin console and are billed per licence, on an annual plan billed monthly or prepaid (there is no month-to-month option):
- Acrobat Standard for teams: US$16.99 a month per licence (Germany €16.80 excluding VAT).
- Acrobat Pro for teams: US$23.99 a month per licence (Germany €23.99 excluding VAT).
- Acrobat Studio for teams: US$29.99 a month per licence (Germany €30.24 excluding VAT).
Larger organisations can buy through Adobe's volume licensing instead.
Can you still buy Acrobat without a subscription?
Partly. Adobe sells Acrobat Pro 2024 as a one-time purchase, but it is a three-year term licence, not a perpetual one. Adobe describes it as three years of desktop access with quarterly security updates, no new features and no online services. Adobe's own page does not list a price; it is sold through resellers, and prices vary between them, so compare a few before buying. After three years you need to buy again.

Do architects and engineers need Acrobat Pro?
For contracts, forms and e-signatures, Acrobat is the familiar tool and Pro covers most office needs. For drawing sets the picture is different: Compare Files compares drawing sheets as images and marks changed areas rather than laying one revision over the other in colour, and large multi-sheet sets from AutoCAD, Revit, and ArchiCAD can feel heavy on scroll and zoom in general-purpose PDF tools.
