Frequently Asked Questions

Does my file get uploaded?
No. The encryption runs entirely in your browser on your own device, using a PDF engine compiled to run on the page. Your PDF is never sent to a server, never stored, and never seen by us. That matters for confidential construction drawings and NDA work, where uploading a file to a stranger's server is exactly what you cannot do.
How strong is the password protection?
The PDF is locked with AES-256, the strongest encryption the PDF format supports. Anyone opening the file in Adobe Acrobat, a browser, or any standard PDF viewer is asked for the password first. As with any password, the protection is only as strong as the password you choose, so use a long one and store it somewhere safe, because there is no way to recover a forgotten password.
What is the difference between an open password and an owner password?
An open password is needed just to view the file. An owner (permissions) password lets the file open freely but restricts printing, copying, or editing. This tool sets an open password so the whole document stays private. The same password is used for both, which keeps things simple for sharing a locked file with a trusted recipient.
Is it free, with no watermark?
Free, no signup, no email, and no watermark on your file. A small thank-you tool from the team behind Ncored, the desktop PDF app for heavy AutoCAD, Revit, and ArchiCAD drawings.
